Star Information Systems is pleased to announce that OKEA decided to transfer the Brage platform from Wintershall Dea (WSD)’s SAP software solution to OKEA’s STAR EAM System.

A reliable business partner

In May 2022, OKEA acquired Wintershall Deas’ share of 35.2 percent in the Brage field and took over as operator. OKEA concluded that Brage should be converted from SAP to STAR to replace the existing ERP solutions with a functional, user-friendly, and cost-effective software solution.

A similar conversion was successfully completed in 2018 when OKEA took over operator responsibility for the Draugen field from Shell Norge. The constructive collaboration since 2018 has resulted in the development and configuration of the STAR EAM System, which provides an excellent opportunity for further growth in the portfolio.

Conversion of Brage

The project aimed to implement STAR’s maintenance and logistics system with converted Brage-SAP data. The project started in the summer of 2022, and the first phase is scheduled to be in place by the 1st of November this year. OKEA then completed the acquisition of Wintershall Dea’s shares and operatorship in the Brage field. The handover was carried out to ensure safe and secure operations.

Such a short time horizon results in a very tight schedule, and it is almost impossible to plan in good time if you do not have the right tools to handle that much data.

Key figures from a successful conversion:

Transactional data, such as open orders and work orders, were converted as close to the takeover date as possible. The large amount of data, which also required quality improvement, was in itself one of the challenges solved in the project. It was particularly challenging that the data basis had to be obtained from two different versions of SAP.

“Together with skilled people from OKEA, our project team has done a formidable job in the transit project. We have again shown that we can deliver quality quickly and successfully implement the solution in the customer’s organization. Without motivated and trained end users, such a change will not be a success. I am proud of what we have done in this project together with OKEA,” says Per Anders Koien, Product Director at Star Information Systems.

Star Information Systems has extensive experience and expertise in using the “STAR Delivery Model” to convert data from other systems to support customers’ takeover of units such as ships, larger drilling rigs, and oil & gas facilities.

Safe and optimized operation for OKEA

To ensure an optimized operation of Brage and the necessary approval by the Petroleum Safety Authority, Star Information Systems has put together a competent team of specialist consultants who work closely with professionals at OKEA and WSD.
We are on the right track to achieving the goals set for phase one of the project. Phase two continues throughout this year to complete the solution by converting more data for additional key functions for continued safe operation.

«Our clear milestone plan enables us, together with OKEA, to sort all necessary and emerging activities into a project plan to reach the desired milestones for a successful transition, » says Hans-Kristian Fjærem, Project Manager for the Brage Transition Project at Star Information Systems.

STAR Digitalized processes and mobile apps

From 2023, Star Information Systems and OKEA will enter a new phase where the goal is to jointly further develop the solution to sustain OKEA’s ambition of simplified, safe and profitable operations.

Star Information Systems will continue to digitize processes, develop robust planning and control tools, as well as launch several new mobile apps. Focus areas will be joint control for operational units. Planning, follow-up, and administration are also vital areas.

The continued collaboration on efficient and automated processes will again put OKEA and Star Information Systems in a position to transfer the management of several production units on the Norwegian continental shelf.

«OKEA has chosen STAR based on an overall assessment where the goal has been a more efficient and user-friendly everyday life for our employees. We are a responsible operator with high requirements for restructuring, efficiency, and good management. Since 2018, Star Information Systems has developed a competitive solution together with OKEA, and we still see further potential for development. The success has come because we have focused on that everything can be solved as long as we know the challenges and work together as a team. » Elisabeth Sivertsen, C&P Manager at OKEA ASA.

A favorable collaboration

Today, the industry requires a wide range of applications from many suppliers, which causes challenges for, among other things, efficiency and budgets. The collaboration with OKEA aims to reduce the number of applications by expanding the functionality of STAR EAM and creating seamless integrations with other necessary suppliers of OKEA.
