The flexibility of configuration in the STAR software for Supply & Logistics allows for a fully automated or semi-automated replenishment of selected inventory items or combining the two processes.
The process of re-ordering inventory items for a vessel or a fleet is usually time-consuming and involves both onboard and office resources. The process usually includes preparation, approval, quoting, negotiation, more approval, and finally ordering, which adds a considerable amount to the cost. In addition, the order is often categorized as urgent, which again increases the freight cost. By using the flexibility of configuration in the STAR software for Supply & Logistics you can have a fully automated or semi-automated replenishment of selected inventory items or combining the two processes.
Different properties can be set to identify the inventory items for an automated replenishment process. Further on, the system activates a trigger for each category when the specified items are to be placed on a full or semi-automated requisition process onboard. The motivation can be, e.g., a defined re-ordering level for consumables, insufficient stock of spare parts for planned maintenance jobs, critical spare parts recently used, periodical replenishment, or special delivery for an upcoming port call.
Together with the SISCommerce portal, the process engine in the STAR software can also automate routines for purchasing at the office, combining automated requisitioning with contracted suppliers at accepted prices within the vessel budget. Typically, the system sends notifications to selected personnel either as a confirmation on a successful process or if any manual intervention is needed.
As a result, the vessel is supplied accurately with the necessary items needed at a far less cost.
