Asset Management for Shipping

Managing the assets and the asset value is vital as they represent large values. In the Star software systems, the categories of assets managed and monitored includes the ships themselves, the equipment onboard and the spare parts.

Managing the fleet of ships includes long term planning of their operation according to contracts, dry-docking, audits, etc. These planned and actual changes in operational mode can be defined for each ship and visualized in the software solutions.

Some equipment onboard circulates between locations onboard and even between ships. Tracking their whereabouts and their condition is important. Recent years the shipping industry has got a focus on cost saving. The Star software system has several functions imbedded to avoid unnecessary purchase and delivery of spare parts that exist somewhere in the fleet or in warehouses. When spare parts are needed users are notified about available items for internal transfer as a cost saving alternative to buying.

Barriers and Performance Standard

Technical barriers on board a vessel are critical to prevent disasters or major accidents from happening.

To have an operational barrier system, you need to know which equipment is a member of a barrier, how this equipment should work in a critical situation, its expected performance standard, and its current ability to meet this performance standard. In STAR EAM, unlike most other maintenance software, you may tag the equipment as a technical barrier and assign it to the barrier system(s) it is a member of. And set the required performance standard.

The performance standard report requirement includes how and when to check and verify the condition of the barrier system equipment. The related inspections and maintenance tasks describe how you should carry out the check and report it. If the performance standard is not met or the equipment is down for maintenance, you may use color-coding to warn about non-performing barriers.

Using the STAR EAM System, you control that the performance of your equipment is up to the correct standard, and the system tells you how to keep your units safe during the repair. The corrective job is reported in the system for historical and retrospective matters, according to international requirements and standards.
