Per Anders Koien: Weathering the storm

Last year was a difficult year for many shipping and offshore segments. We saw that many of our customers experienced tough markets throughout the year. In such markets it is important to focus on saving a penny wherever possible.

As a provider of software systems for more efficient operations of ships and rigs since 1997; SIS experience that many new potential customers are also now asking for help how to save money on operations. As such, SIS was not directly affected by the difficult times and we are proud to announce that we were able to show profitable operations also in 2009. Thus; we believe this proves that our organization and products are relevant both in bad and strong markets.

Furthermore, it looks like most markets are turning more positive again and that the interest for software products continue to increase. Although not the same strong markets as in 2007/2008; there is definitely a more positive trend in most segments. SIS has budgeted for this and we expect a 25% increase in both sales and the number of employees in 2010.

For our customers this is good news as this means that we are able to handle bigger contracts, further professionalize and expand all our services, increase our world-wide Per Anders Koien - CEOfootprint with new offices, and finally add new products.

Choosing a software provider is a long term relationship, and as such SIS has proven to be a reliable partner through both ups and downs.

Seadrill Management (S) Pte Ltd: Setting the standard in drilling

Seadrill is a major force in offshore drilling and has, over the past five years, built the world’s most modern drilling fleet. Together with partners, the company owns and operates 40 drilling units. Seadrill's versatile fleet includes harsh-environment semi-submersibles, premium jack-up rigs, shallow and deepwater tender rigs, and deepwater drill ships. Seadrill’s declared mission is to set the standard in drilling.

Seadrill Management in Singapore owns and operates a fleet of eight premium Jack-up drilling rigs. Six of the Seadrill rigs were converted from another supplier to Star software in January 2008. Following a successful evaluation scheme with two rigs, the software was progressively rolled out on the remaining operational Jack-up rigs managed out of the Seadrill Singapore office. Two additional rigs are currently under construction, and SIS is delighted to be Seadrill’s chosen supplier of planned maintenance and purchasing systems for these rigs.

Seadrill rig "West Prospero"When choosing SIS as supplier, Seadrill had already developed first-class HSEQ and asset maintenance standards in line with government regulations in Norway. To support rapid expansion of its operations, the challenge was to extend this same high quality to its rigs worldwide while also meeting local and customer requirements in the Far East.

Noting Seadrill’s requirement for a high quality maintenance and procurement system to manage inventories and facilitate management reporting, SIS take pride in fulfilling the real business requirements of our client. At the same time, so as not to disrupt operations, both SIS and Seadrill carefully worked out a detailed implementation strategy and schedule to ensure that the migration to SIS systems were well timed to minimize any impact on Seadrill’s operations. “A dedicated SIS focal point was appointed during the implementation phase so that the best support was provided for any problem encountered. This improved communication meant that Seadrill only had to deal with one person for all of our queries,” says Seadrill Technical Manager for Asia Pacific, Ivor Smith.

Seadrill’s business strategy is to focus on modern state-of-the-art offshore drilling units and deepwater operations. Seadrill believes that by combining quality assets and experienced and skilled employees, they will be able to provide customers with safe and effective operations, and establish, develop, and maintain a position as a preferred provider of offshore drilling services for their customers.

Looking forward, SIS is committed to support Seadrill’s international operations by continuously soliciting feedback from our users and proactively improving work processes to ensure that the planned benefits of our systems are realized.

SISCommerce: Still going strong!

Since the first transaction was sent on SISCommerce in 2001, SIS has seen steady growth in the number of customers benefiting from electronic trade. Not all solutions born during the "e-commerce boom" have seen the same fortune, and now, almost a decade later, there are only a few companies left providing e-commerce to the maritime industry.

SISCommerce was developed in 2001 on request by SIS customers. This was during the "e-commerce boom", and instead of integrating our systems with eager e-commerce providers in the market, SIS decided to do it all in-house. This decision has not been regretted, as we see that our fully owned and operated e-commerce solution proves efficient to our customer both in terms of implementation time, support, and the cost of use.

SISCommerce integrates with the Star Central Purchasing System (Star CPS), and requires no additional user interface. The implementation of SISCommerce takes less than a day, and after the installation purchasers continue to use Star CPS as their daily purchasing tool, but with added functionality for more efficient trading. With SISCommerce the purchaser can issue RFQ's and PO's effortless with just one click in Star CPS, and what's more important: receive prices, comments, and other details from the supplier directly into the purchasing system without retyping data from fax or e-mails. In addition, services such as automatically reminders, freight forwarder agreements, reporting, and roaming with other e-commerce portals are available. For the purchaser, this means less time spent "moving paper" and more time available for strategic purchasing tasks and contract negotiations.

Today more than 1000 transactions are sent everyday between ship and rig operators worldwide and the 3 000+ suppliers registered on SISCommerce; making SISCommerce one of the world's largest
e-commerce solutions to the maritime industry!

To learn more about SISCommerce, visit us during Asia Pacific Maritime 2010 in Singapore March 24th-26th, or contact us directly to book a non-committing presentation of the solution.
