Per Anders Koien: More focus on efficient operations

Our business applications are important tools used by our customers to improve safety and increase profits. Previously, onboard software was regarded as an efficient way to satisfy class requirements. Today, the integrated SIS software is an important source for decision support, performance indicators and improvements. Making the relationship between business, software, organization and users run smoothly is therefore vital. Our implementation services help our customers with their success.

We acknowledge that 2009 will present its own unique challenges. While SIS software products continue to attract new customers, we continue to work closely with existing clients to provide them with new and improved software applications. This close working relationship with our customers is symbolic of the trust and confidence they have in our products and services.

The focus during the last years have been on meeting requirements and regulations but we now experience more and more focus on efficient operations- meaning saving money, improving purchasing routines to get better prices, and other cost cutting initiatives. SIS is committed to helping our customers also in these areas.

We are looking forward to meeting most of them at the Nor-Shipping fair in Oslo between the 9th and the 12th of June.

Managing Director, Per Anders Koien

Keeping pace with the demand for new fleet management software tools and the increasingly global nature of the industry has been a challenge. But thanks to our skilled employees and worldwide partners, SIS is able to offer customers the solutions they need, where they need it.

Star Academy - Training worldwide

Star Information Systems AS has further professionalized its services experience from working with training for various systems - both onboard and office personnel.

SIS has employed Jon Hallan to be in charge of the entire Star Academy. Jon has more than 10 years experience from working with training in various systems in the Norwegian Navy.
‘We have experienced that documented competence gets more and more important for most of our customers and as such we see a requirement to increase and formalize the training services provided by SIS’, said Jon Hallan.

SIS offers standard training schemes which might be tailored for each individual company.
Some of the services provided by SIS are:

IPS training

Open courses in Trondheim
SIS has 2 class rooms in Trondheim equipped with workstations for up to 16 participants.

Portable classroom
SIS has 12 preconfigured laptops which might be brought anywhere, two suitcases containing 6 laptops each. This is often used in places where there is no PC network installed and the ‘students’ need on hand experience with SIS software. Normally, the training sessions are done on a demo reflecting the customers database, so that the information will be familiar and the training more efficient.

Customer specific courses
SIS performs customer training courses normally in the customers’ offices or onboard.

International
SIS and SIS’ partners offer training courses in places such as:

This also means that if required we are able to provide training in various languages such as English, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Dutch, French, Portuguese, Russian, Latvian, Rumanian, Ukrainian, and Mandarin.

Star Computer Based Training (CBT)
SIS has made a CBT for normal tasks in the Star IPS programs. This CBT is offered as a standard Star CBT or might be tailored for each company.

Officers’ conferences
SIS can offer to participate at events such as officers’ conferences, internal meetings and audits. This means that we normally do Question and Answer sessions with the ship or rig owners’ personnel, answering questions related to using the system, tips and knowledge transfer.

Discover the potential of your purchasing department

With an integrated software product range for vessels and rigs, centralized technical fleet management solutions, and centralized purchasing solutions including eCommerce, Star Information Systems is the prime option for ship and rig owners looking to improve their purchasing function.

With eCommerce as an integrated part of the purchasing system, purchasers can start spending more time on strategic purchasing, contract negotiation, and analytical work, rather than spending time moving paper and re-typing prices from fax and e-mail into their purchasing system.

Star Information System’s eCommerce solution, SISCommerce, enables purchasers to send inquiries and orders directly from their purchasing system, see updated statuses on pending inquiries and orders, and receive prices, delivery details, and instruction directly into their purchasing system. The result is a more efficient way to find the best prices and lead times from your suppliers, while at the same time spending less time chasing supplier for statuses.

Additionally you can have reminder services and KPI services, and with the integration between purchasing system and vessel, product details received via SISCommerce are used to enhance data quality across the fleet.

Are you ready to discover your potentials?

Environmental reporting

Star Information Systems AS has expanded its ship and fleet management system to enable support for the ISO 14000 industrial environment control requirements.

All vessels are energy consumers, of fuel, gas, lubrication oil, paint, plastics etc. For reporting on the consumption, the system can extract information from the Star IPS into a report, thus avoiding double work. E.g. all consumption of paint and lubrication oils over a certain period will be copied from the inventory. MARPOL Annex V garbage disposal (food, sludge, paper, plastics etc.) can be registered and reports generated.

All equipment onboard a ship or rig will be registered with energy consumption and what kind of drivers they have. Calculations of NoX, SOx and other emissions can be made for reporting to e.g. local authorities, customers and management.

It is for the customer to decide which items are to be included in the environment report.

New Support system

SIS has implemented a new support system to handle all incoming support and maintenance questions. Some of our customers have already starting using this.

All customers should primarily send their questions using the web interface. Only dedicated contact persons will be registered as users, thereby having the possibility to use the support system. To register users send a list with names and e-mail addresses to register@sismarine.com.

Users who are registered can send an e-mail directly to our support system and a case/ticket will then be created. If you have any questions related to this, please contact support@sismarine.com.
